Ubuntu Sony 200ES did not work

So I switched over to Ubuntu from openSUSE
after I witnessed a really good package manager
and how quick this OS felt. There was only one
little problem. My monitor. I could not get the
video card to display more than 640x480
resolution on a Sony 200S monitor. I shot off a
few google queries read up on the subject of
nVidia drivers. Automatix and Envy are fantastic. Combined they
almost solved my problems yet I suggest you look
into both programs.
After trial and error, I finally went to the store to buy another card. Installed it and still it did not work. I hooked up the box to my wide screen and presto, it worked. I got 1024x768 resolution. So I swapped out my new card with the old card used Envy again and still no dice. Hmmm Then it dawned on me, it is not the card yet the monitor itself. I have a Viewsonic E771 right next to the Sony. I swapped monitors and presto again, the viewsonic was recognized by Ubuntu. It seems the Sony Multiscan 200ES did not autodetect with Ubuntu.
Well, my Sony at least works with my Mac. Hell ya!
