I wanted to use an existing VPN connection that I already established, and piggy back on it and use the VoIP phone. It goes through the same VPN connection and using a second NIC card. Note: Asterisk@Home is now TRIXBOX.ORG
Gear I Used at Remote House
• Linksys Cisco SPA941 VoIP Phone
• Pentium 4 running XP
• Netgear Prosafe VPN Software (to connect to Office Netgear Router)
• (2) NIC Cards
• 1 Hub (Cross over may work but did not have one)
Netgear FVS318 VPN Router
Linsys VoIP SPA-941
Gear I Used at Office
• Pentium 4 Running Asterisk@Home 2.2
• Netgear FVS318 VPN Router
Step 1 (Asterisk@Home):
• Setup all the extentions you need to use and set the NAT to say YES in the Extension Menu (this does not refer to extentions.conf)
Step 2 (Remote House):
• Installed a second NIC inside XP
• After reboot Open Local Area Connection that is connection to the internet an and click on Properies (I used Local Area Connection on the left)
• Turn off Firewall
• Click Advance Tab
• Check "Allow other network users to connect through this computer;s Internet Connection" and "Allow other network users to control or disable the shared Internet Connection"
Step 3 (Remote House):
• Connect a small hub to NIC #2
• Connect VoIP Phone to Hub
• Set VoIP phone to a unique IP number that matches NIC #2 network class (ex. 192.168.0.142 for VoIP Phone )
• Connect VPN using your ProSafe software
NOTE: The only thing I could not do was make it ring. If I find out how to I will add this step.
