911 Call Replacement in Asterisk

CAUTION: This is not a proven way to replace 911 service. Use at your own risk.

My problem was I completely changed my old phone system from PSTN lines to VoIP. Now I have no 911 service. In order for me to get around this, I created a 911 extension to my local police department instead. The Police department clearly said I will be placed on hold and routed to dispatch. I am assuming this will be 911. But did not clarify this. Here is how I did the routing.

LET'S TEST THIS FIRST WITH 411 in Asterisk
Note: I used Teliax as my provider. Replace with yours.

1) Set up Extension of 411 (I do not want to hit 911 until I am sure this will not be a real call)
2) Using FreePBX click on TOOLS > CONFIG EDIT > extensions_custom.conf
3) On the left side, click on from-internal-custom
4) Add the lines at the bottom:

; EMERGENCY Here
exten => 411,1,Dial(IAX2/teliax/17148531212)

5) Update and Re-Read Confiigs

6) Dial 411 and this should give you the time.

If all works well replace the 411 with 911 and the phone number '17148531212' with your local police department.
